The new partnership will provide a way for gamers to buy virtual currency by paying for it with cash, by visiting one of the banks, post offices, convenience stores, kiosks, or grocery stores which are part of ZipZap’s 700,000 strong payment service network. This will enable the 50% of gamers who do not have access to regular financial services, to still buy the virtual goods they want to buy. This category includes the growing teen market. ZipZap’s CashPay payment option allows this already, and is currently available as a payment option in Heroes of Newerth (S2 Games), and Russian social networks Vkontakte and Odnoklassniki.
Albert Donahue, VP and Co-Founder of Xsolla. said “Partnering with ZipZap will expand monetization options for the online gaming industry, helping our partners to reach tweens, teens and others who want to buy virtual currency in their favorite games, but cannot because they do not have a credit card or bank account to pay with” He also mentioned that there is appeal to consumers who are simply cautious about the security of giving their card account details. “This is a huge, untapped market that includes over a billion people worldwide,” he added. Xsolla is individual in that it provides over 250 payment options, including mobile payments and online banking, but it has focused these options on the online gaming industry.
