American Express offers small businesses first dibs of Twitter’s new advertising solution

Free Advertising

As from Friday 17th February, American Express is offering its card members and merchants first access to Twitter’s new advertising solution for small businesses (view press release). The first 10,000 eligible businesses that register (ads.twitter.com/amex) will receive $100 of free Twitter advertising from American Express. The solution is the first of its kind and is due for release in late March. It will allow small businesses to launch advertising campaigns tapping into Twitter’s 300+ million users. Twitter is expected to make the solution available to the general public later this year.

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo says “small businesses are among the first to embrace Twitter as a way to connect and interact with consumers in real time… we are announcing a simple way for small businesses to amplify their voices on Twitter and reach a new set of potential customers using our Promoted Products.”

In other news, American Express is releasing an updated version of Serve, its digital wallet service. The new version will incorporate all of Amex’s prepaid products as well as deals and loyalty rewards. All Amex prepaid card holders will use the Serve platform when it is released and purchases will be made from ecommerce sites using a PIN instead of the long card number.
