Visa and Intel Corporation partner to expand mobile commerce

Making mobile payments broadly available

The partnership is a multi-year, multi-device arrangement to develop mobile commerce solutions for smartphones and tablets (view press release). As part of the agreement, Visa will certify Intel’s Smartphone Reference Device for use with Visa payWave and the Intel Smartphone Reference Device (which features NFC technology) will host the Visa payWave payment application. When connected to a Visa compliant UICC, smartphones based on the Intel Smartphone Reference Device will be able to connect to Visa’s mobile provisioning service through a Trusted Services Management (TSM) platform.

Visa president John Partridge says that the deal is part of a wider plan “to make mobile payments broadly available across devices and operating systems and to ensure that mobile commerce applications are aligned with existing technology and security standards established by the global payments industry.”
