The round was led by Capital Management Zurich Ltd (view press release). Paymentez, a monetisation and payment platform for virtual content in Latin America, aims to use the funding to secure its position as the payment platform of choice for purchasers of virtual content in Latin America. At present around 50 companies use the Paymentez platform to reach users and monetise their content in Latin America. These include the likes of Facebook, Zynga, Sulake, Playfish, Artix, PlaySpan, Grooveshark and Spil Games.
Consumers can use Paymentez to buy virtual credits either through its online gateway, which accepts international and local credit cards, bank transfers and SMS, or in cash at stores and internet cafes. According to Paymentez, the company has processed a total of 11.5 million transactions since its inception in early 2011 and more than four million people used its services over the course of last year.
Stefan Hofmann, managing director of Capital Management Zurich Ltd says “the rapid rate of acceptance of Paymentez’ monetisation platform is a clear sign that leading virtual content providers are realizing the potential that Latin America holds and recognize the region as a huge market.”
The platform is available online and in 500,000 retails points of sale in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and Colombia. The company wants to expand to 1 million points of sale over the course of the year.
