Google Wallet pays customers USD5 after security glitch

Awarding compensation

Google Wallet is awarding existing customers USD5 on pre-paid cards as a form of compensation for a security glitch discovered in the mobile payments service last month. Developers found a crack in Google Wallet’s security that meant user credit card and payment details could be accessed merely by reconfiguring the app on a stolen smartphone. Google disabled the service when the fault was flagged up but says that users’ accounts have now been restored.
