Western Union launches new online payment platform WU Pay

Online shopping without entering card details

The solution is based on the eBillme platform, which Western Union developed in October 2011, and allows online shoppers to pay for online transactions without having to enter their financial details online (view press release). Instead of imputing card details when checking out online, shoppers who choose to pay by WU Pay are sent a bill via email which they then pay off as they would a typical bill via their online bank account or at one of the 44,000 Western Union Agent locations in the US. Customers using WesternUnion.com can also use the payment option to make money transfers.

WU Pay propels us further into the digital payment space and improves our core money movement capabilities by combining the strengths of our bricks-and-mortar agent network and WesternUnion.com with the proven eBillme platform we acquired last year,” said Western Union president and CEO Hikmet Ersek.

The WU Pay payment option is available across a wide range of e-merchant sites in the US and can also be used to buy virtual gift cards at around 60 e-tailers.
