PayByPhone launches UK’s first NFC parking solution in Tunbridge Wells

NFC contactless parking payments

The NFC contactless technology is being implemented in the town council’s 15 car parks and will enable drivers to pay for parking with a swipe or tap of their NFC-enabled Android or Blackberry smartphone (view press release). The payment process is carried out by tapping the phone against the NFC logo located on PayByPhone stickers on any one of the pay and display council parking metres in the town. This then launches the PayByPhone app which includes a unique parking location number. The driver then enters the length of time they want to park and their card security number to confirm the payment which is processed in a few seconds.

NFC payments are set for rapid growth in the UK during 2012 when millions of NFC enabled smartphones will become available,” says PayByPhone CEO Robin Bevan. “Using this technology to further improve our phone parking makes the service so much easier for customers to use. That is why we have invested in developing this technology and will be rolling it out to all of our clients during 2012.”
