Nokia rolls out commercial NFC mobile payment trial in Brazil

PagSeguro

The pilot enables users of Nokia C7, C9 and 701 NFC–enabled smartphones to use their phones as mobile wallets to make payments and transfer funds. The NFC-enabled phones work in conjunction with the PagSeguro NFC app which was designed by the Nokia Institute of Technology (INdT) in Brazil. Transfers/payments are made with the vendor first entering the sale amount, both users then tap their phones together and the buyer confirms the purchase amount to complete the transaction. Funds are transferred instantly from the buyers linked account. The service is only operable between two phones with the PagSeguro app and is not compatible with existing NFC POS systems.

The app will be available to Brazilians from May.
