American Express partners Barnes & Noble for campus prepaid card

A budgeting and spending tool for students

American Express is launching the Campus Edition Prepaid Card in collaboration with Barnes and Noble providing college students with a budgeting and spending tool that can be used wherever American Express is accepted worldwide (view press release). The card can be personalised and ordered for free online and loaded with between USD25 and USD500 from an online bank account, with cash via MoneyPak, or at the register of affiliated Barnes and Noble bookstores. Loading by direct deposit will also be available soon. The card is compatible with ATM use and there is no fee for the first month of ATM withdrawals, a USD2 fee per transaction is applied thereafter. Services such as monthly maintenance, activation, balance enquiries, alerts, card replacement, forex conversion and loading via bank account are complimentary.

American Express is also offering a temporary, one-time load card which can be purchased from 500 or so Barnes and Noble stores across the US at a cost of USD4.95. Temporary cards cannot be personalised or used at ATMs and are only accepted at Amercian Express compatible locations around the US.
