PayPal announces integration of its offline payment solutions with new national retailers

New retail partners

PayPal is integrating its offline payment and shopping solutions with fifteen new retailers in the US: Abercrombie & Fitch, Advance Auto Parts, Aeropostale, American Eagle outfitters, Barnes & Noble, Foot Locker, Guitar Center, Jamba Juice, JC Penny, Jos. A. Bank Clothiers, Nine West, Office Depot, Rooms To Go, Tiger Direct and Toys “R” Us (view blog post). The PayPal offline service integrates directly into a retailers point of sale hardware and provides an alternative method of payment that does not require NFC technology. To make payment, the customer enters their mobile phone number and PayPal passcode manually or swipes their PayPal card and the funds are debited directly from their PayPal account.

Consumers are relying on technology now more than ever to simplify their lives when it comes to shopping and paying, and retailers must adapt to this shift or risk becoming irrelevant,” said PayPal president David Marcus in a blog post. “Innovative retailers everywhere are looking for ways to improve the shopping experience, extend loyalty programmes and better engage with their customers.”

PayPal first rolled out its alternative offline payment and shopping solutions with Home Depot stores during a five store pilot test a few months ago and its solutions are now implemented in almost 2,000 of the chain’s outlets.
