Western Union rolls out bill presentment solution for smartphones

Pay bills with a click from a mobile device

Western Union is updating its Speedpay service to enable customers to pay bills with a click from their mobile device (view press release). The Speedpay eBill payment and presentment (EBPP) solution enables billers to offer their customers the option of receiving bills as a secure email attachment that can be opened from their mobile device. The enhancement was developed in collaboration with eBill presentment specialist, Striata, and enables one click bill payments directly from Android, Blackberry, iPhone and iPad devices.

Email delivery of bills is ideally suited to the mobile channel,” said Striata CEO Garin Toren. “Through an encrypted attachment, recipients are able to open, view and pay their electronic bills on any email-capable mobile device or tablet, without the need to download any application or software – it’s as simple as opening and email attachment.”

One third of Americans now own a smartphone and around 40% use them for online banking, claims Pew Research.
