ASB launches mobile app for Facebook payments in New Zealand

Mobile payments through Facebook

ASB is launching an enhancement to its mobile banking app, ASB Mobile, which will allow New Zealanders to make payments to their contacts through Facebook (view press release).  From mid-July, the enhanced app will enable users to pay their Facebook ‘friends’ without using a bank account number, regardless of whether they are an ASB customer or not. The solution is the first of its kind in New Zealand, claims ASB. Another enhancement means that customers can now register and download the app on multiple devices, including iPad and iPhone. Regarding security, no personal banking information is stored on the phone and all unretrieved funds are credited back to the payer after 14 days.

We know from talking to our customers that they are seeking out quicker, more convenient, and safer ways to make payments that reflect their lifestyle,” said ASB’s GM of Brand Experience and Digital Channels, Anna Curzon. “The next step in this evolution is being able to seamlessly make payments from their smartphone, using Facebook as a channel. We believe Facebook payments will be a popular addition to the range of payment options already available on ASB Mobile which include payments by mobile numbers and email addresses.”
