Barclays launches mobile banking app

Managing accounts on the go

Barclays is launching a mobile banking app which will allow customers to manage their accounts on the go (view press release). Users of the service will be able to view their balances and last 30 transactions, make transfers between accounts, pay bills and find branches and ATMs. The app also allows Barclaycard UK personal customers who hold Barclays bank accounts to view their credit card balance, recent transactions and make a repayment off their last statement balance.

The downloadable app is initially available on Apple and Android phones for customers who are 16 years and over and there are plans to release a Blackberry version in the near future. To use the service, customers register their phone and account details via the app using the PINsentry device, and the app is protected by a five-digit passcode chosen by the user which is keyed in to access mobile banking.

We know apps are proving really popular following the recent launch of Barclays Pingit, a way to send and receive money with a mobile number, which has been downloaded over 900,000 times in its first four months,” said Sean Gilchrist, MD of Barclays Digital. “This launch is the next step in moving forward our mobile banking service which has been used by over 0.5 million customers to manage their accounts on the move.
