Mobile check deposit, mobile app alerts and P2P email and mobile transfers

Bank of America is launching new mobile banking products and service enhancements including mobile check deposit, mobile app alerts and P2P email and mobile transfers (view press release). The check deposit function will allow users to deposit checks without visiting an ATM or banking centre. Customers are required to download the mobile app onto their tablet or smartphone, which they then use to take a photo of their check. After following some on-screen instructions, they will be able to complete the deposit. At present this service is available on iPad, with plans for iPhone, Windows Phone and Google Android versions in the future.

The P2P email and mobile transfer service will allow customers to carry out P2P transfers via online banking or a smartphone, using only an email address or mobile phone number. The bank claims that this removes the need for customers to share personal account information, which provides stronger protection from identity theft. This service is available on a number of smartphones including, iPhone, Google Android and Windows Phone.

The mobile app alerts service allows customers to manage account alerts via their mobile device. There are around 50 alerts offered including alerts for low balances, online card usage and irregular card activity.  The app is available on iPad, and there are plans to make it iPhone, Google Android and Windows Phone-enabled in the future.
