Using mobile phones to pay for parking

PayByPhone, provider of services to parking authorities, is introducing a pay-by-phone payment service across an estimated 13,000 on-street paid parking spaces throughout the City of Seattle (view press release). Through the deal, drivers will be able to use their mobile phones to pay for parking. Users download the PayByPhone app and payments are made by entering the block’s location number and the length of parking time desired. Customers sign up once with their credit card and license plate online, via the app or by phone, which can be done at the point of parking. Customers can also receive an SMS reminder before their parking time expires, with an option to add time remotely and receive parking receipts by email.

PayByPhone parking technology is currently used in Miami, San Francisco, Vancouver, Ottawa and London.
