Temenos launches fingerprint enabled cards in Vietnam

Fingerprint enabled debit card

Temenos, the banking software provider, is launching Vietnam’s first fingerprint-enabled debit card at Mekong Development Bank (view press release). The Temenos T24 Biometric fingerprint authentication aims to provide the unbanked population of Vietnam with access to banking services, as only 20% of the 86 million strong population of Vietnam have bank accounts. Since the initial launch in June, the bank’s current account base has tripled and the deposit balance per debit card account is twice as high as a regular account without a card.

Customers’ fingerprints are captured when an account is opened, and can then be used for verification at one of 33 NCR SelfServ ATMs across Vietnam. This will be extended to other touch points in the future.
