Starbucks CEO claims expansion is up to Square

Howard Schultz

Starbuck’s CEO, Howard Schultz, says that it is down to Square to scale the new US-based partnership to an international level. The partnership deal will see Square powering credit and debit card payments for the company and taking payments via its smartphone app. Jack Dorsey, Square CEO,  says that the USD 25 million investment from Starbucks will be spent on ‘international efforts.’  The mobile payment startup could be looking to provide services to 18,000 Starbucks’ stores in 60 countries. The move would give it the edge over other payments services and bring it into closer competition with rivals such as PayPal.
