Westpac partners Oberthur Technologies for NFC m-payments

Australian bank, Westpac has selected the Trusted Service Manager (TSM) from secure technology provider, Oberthur Technologies, for a new pilot Android mobile NFC payment application (view press release). Through the deal, Westpac’s debit cards will be able to pre-personalise into android handsets fully-equipped with a secure element embedded in the SIM card, without the need for additional hardware attachments. When the users virtual debit card has been personalised on the phone, the will be able to pay for goods by tapping their phone onto a contactless payment reader at the checkout.
