Wal-Mart is set to trial an in-store mobile payments system, dubbed ‘Scan & Go’, as the retailer continues to enhance its payment options. A Reuters report, citing a form on the Survey Monkey website, claims that the service, initially designed for Apple’s iPhone, will enable consumers to scan products as they shop before transferring the itinerary to Wal-Mart’s self-service kiosk where they pay by cash or credit card. Wal-Mart is yet to confirm the report, stating only: “We’re continually testing new and innovative ways to serve customers and enhance the shopping experience in our stores.” If true, the move further highlights the appetite for m-payments from companies throughout different industries, from traditional credit card providers to mobile operators.
