eBay buys social shopping site Svpply

Strengthening its social offerings

eBay has acquired e-commerce startup, Svpply, for an undisclosed amount, as it continues to strengthen its social offerings. Svpply based in New York, aggregates a range of clothing from across the internet, which allows its users to curate their own wish lists in a similar style to Pinterest, and share items with others by connecting their social network accounts such as Facebook and Twitter. eBay will utilise Svpply’s technology and six-man team to help the e-commerce firm create “more personalised experiences and merchandising options on eBay.com”. The move furthers eBay’s efforts to create more personalised experiences for its customers, following the acquisition of recommendations engine Hunch at the tail end of last year.
