Western Union launches mobile money transfer service in El Salvador

Using Tigo’s mobile money service

The Western Union Company is launching its mobile money transfer service in El Salvador (view press release). The company's mobile money transfer service will allow customer to send remittances to people in El Salvador who subscribe to Tigo Money, Tigo’s mobile money service. Tigo is a subsidiary of the telecommunication group Millicom International Cellular S.A., a company present across Latin America and Africa.

Senders can send Western Union money transfer transactions directly to receivers who subscribe to Tigo’s mobile money service for receipt on their mobile phones. Senders can also send Western Union Money transfer transactions and then receivers can direct the funds into their mobile phones by dialling a number.

An added feature allows customers to use the funds they receive to top up their mobile phones.
