Adding NFC payment capabilities

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata had confirmed that his company is looking to expand its business by adding NFC payments capabilities to its Wii U platform.

The company is preparing to allow electronic payments via Wii U’s gamepad NFC reader on the Wii U.  The feature would allow gamers to make payments using touch based payment cards. Moreover, Nintendo is considering the use of Japanese Railways Company Suica’s smartcard.

Consumers can currently add funds to their Wii U devices through the credit or prepaid card on Nintendo eShop. Digital sales for the company have seen strong growth in the past six years – from Y2bn to Y16bn.
