Leaf, creator of a mobile Point of Sale (POS) tablet specifically designed for commerce, has announced the appointment of Sarah McCrary as its CEO. Formerly COO of Leaf, McCrary succeeds CEO Aron Schwarzkopf as he departs Leaf for new ventures.

McCrary will build on the company’s recent success by further executing on its vision for delivering an open and flexible technology platform that simplifies the lives of small business owners.

Leaf was the first mobile payments platform to take an agnostic approach to payment acceptance, allowing small business owners to choose the payment providers that best fit their needs, and was first to open its technology platform to third party developers, enabling them to create applications that address the myriad challenges that different small business face. McCrary has worked to support this vision as Leaf’s COO and will continue applying her wealth of payment technology experience in order to drive sales, customer success and innovative technological developments in her new role.

“The energy around the mobile payments industry is palpable and the opportunity for Leaf to sustain its foothold as a flexible and valuable solution for business owners is an exciting opportunity,” said McCrary. “With its unique platform, eager customer base and strong team, Leaf will continue to innovate in this space to become the small business owner’s best friend.”

McCrary has vast experience in technology project and product development leadership, and prior to joining Leaf as COO was strategic planning director at Heartland Payment Systems, collaborating with the company’s senior executives and partners on strategic initiatives. She also co-invented Heartland’s E3 end-to-end encryption technology.

“Leaf’s vision of always doing what’s best for the merchant is supported through its open and flexible technology,” said Bob Carr, chairman of the board for Leaf. “Until now, there hasn’t been much innovation at the small business point of sale. By always putting the merchant first, Leaf is positioned to deliver the open solution business owners have been waiting for. We are confident that Sarah can drive the company forward and execute on that vision.”
