Southern California’s first Bitcoin ATMs launched in two Los Angeles locations on Saturday, with Zenbox Bitcoin kiosks, powered by Robocoin, opening in branches of Locali Conscious Convenience, the store has announced.
Locali, which specialises in healthy, vegan and organic food, combines fast-casual dining with a convenience store model and has become popular with celebrities and the “Silicon Beach” tech community. Its partnership with Expresscoin LLC, operators of the Zenbox kiosks, marks the latest in a string of “disruptive” retail innovations.
The Bitcoin ATMs, which are the first to be installed in the region, will be launched in Locali’s Hollywood and Venice Beach locations. Sam Glaser, Chief of Growth at Robocoin, said: “Robocoin is thrilled to help bring Bitcoin to the cultural and economic hub of L.A. alongside Locali, its most influential retail/grocer. The potential here is enormous, particularly with Robocoin’s forthcoming remittance update that will let customers send money overseas instantly to any phone number, email address, or Bitcoin address.”
“The partnership with Expresscoin LLC and ZenBox is in line with the future forward, disruptive retail experience we’ve created through our health focused quick service restaurant brand,” added Melissa Rosen, CEO at Locali. “Locali is remarkable not only for our food, but also for embracing the latest and most innovative retail technologies.”
