Following its purchase of the Braintree payments platform last year, PayPal has announced the launch of One Touch payments, a service that will simplify the payments process for users of its mobile app.
As the name suggests, One Touch PayPal will allow shoppers using the app to buy from participating merchants to complete purchases in one touch, aiming to reduce friction caused by users’ frustration at entering a lot of information on mobile devices.
One Touch PayPal has grown out of Braintree’s existing Venmo Touch, a similar one-touch option offered to shoppers who had accounts with money-transfer service Venmo as they shopped across apps that ran on Braintree’s payment system.
The new service is open now for developer beta with selected merchants and is available to developers using Braintree v.zero SDK and all PayPal app users in the coming weeks.
Braintree CEO Bill Ready commented: “We think … this will be the absolutely easiest and safest way to pay on a mobile device. A couple of years from now, if you encounter anything apart from this kind of experience on mobile, you’ll think it’s archaic.”
