Apple and IBM launch apps for enterprise customers

IBM and Apple have released the first run of business apps for iPhone and iPad promised in their July partnership agreement.

The two tech giants announced plans earlier this year to collaborate on more than 100 industry specific products including Apple-specific apps. The two companies also planned work on securing and supporting mobile devices.

Yesterday, IBM and Apple announced that the “IBM Mobile First for iOS solutions” had been released to enterprise customers in banking, retail, insurance, financial services, telecommunications and for governments and airlines. Clients such as Citi, Air Canada, Sprint and Banorte will be offered services.

The apps released include Advise & Grow, to better relationships between bankers and small business clients by offering secure remote access to client data and analytics. Trusted Advice allows advisors to access and manage client portfolios remotely and gain insights from powerful predictive analytics. Both of these apps also allow the user to complete secure transactions.

“This is a big step for iPhone and iPad in the enterprise, and we can’t wait to see the exciting new ways organisations will put iOS devices to work,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. The business world has gone mobile, and Apple and IBM are bringing together the world’s best technology with the smartest data and analytics to help businesses redefine how work gets done.”
