Limonetik allows European e-commerce sites to add Alipay

Alipay is partnering with payments processor Limonetik to allow European merchants better online access to Chinese consumers.

The deal, first reported by The Paypers, will allow European e-commerce sites to easily add Alipay as a payment method.

Limonetik provides a “one stop” shopping payment solution through a PaaS platform, which helps online merchants to quickly add payment methods to their sites. The company acts as a middleware in the payments industry, attempting to implement all payment methods. Limonetik’s larger goal is to make the most recent payment methods available to European merchants.

The partnership will open up Chinese e-commerce even further to European merchants, as the market continues to grow. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said that the country’s e-commerce transactions reached over $2 billion in 2014, and has 642 million and 565 active internet and mobile internet users respectively.

The integration will also allow Alipay to develop its payment method with an eye to European expansion. The company has recently made moves outside China by investing in Indian payments provider One97.
