Uber introduces supercar rides

Forget UberLUX: users of the taxi booking and payment app in Singapore can now book a Lamborghini or Maserati to pick them up in serious style.

Until May 20th, customers will be able to use the standard in-app slider to order a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder for S$200 (US £145) or a Maserati GranTurismo Coupe for S$165 (US $120). Journeys cost S$7 per minute after the first 15 minutes.

“This is a pilot partnership to offer something amazing to riders in Singapore,” said Uber spokesperson Karun Arya.

“If we see a fantastic response and continuing the partnership makes commercial sense for both companies, no reason why we cannot extend this further.”

Despite running into international regulatory hurdles during 2014 and coming under fire for its tepid response to a string of attacks on passengers, Uber is seemingly gaining traction around the world. It has also run a number of successful publicity campaigns, including celebrity-driven vehicles in Malaysia and charity taxis in London.
