HDFC Bank will become the first Indian bank to launch a mobile banking app for the Apple Watch, Business Standard reported.
The Apple Watch app will be available in India later this month, and will include the most commonly used of the 75 features available on the bank’s ordinary mobile app, such as balance enquiry, re-charge of pre-paid mobile phones, cheque book request and account statement, as well as paying utility bills.
HDFC Bank has seen robust growth in internet banking, with 55 per cent of transactions completed over the internet at the end of March 2015. This figure includes mobile banking transactions, which is “completely outpacing internet banking” at the Indian bank, Nitin Chugh, head of digital banking said, “growing at a much faster pace”.
“We started developing the app when Apple Watch released the developers’ kit. Now, we are ready for the ‘i-watch’. We will offer 8-10 features commonly available on the mobile banking app,” he added.
