Scotiabank releases Apple Watch banking app

Financial services provider Scotiabank announced yesterday that their mobile banking app will become available on the Apple Watch.

Customers using an Apple Watch will have faster access to their bank account information with Scotiabank’s Quick Balance feature. This allows users to check their balance as well as view their five most recent transactions from their preferred Scotiabank account, without the need to log on or enter a password.

The app will be available to use on April 24th, the same day that the Apple Watch is being released. The Apple Watch will include many features relating to the banking sector, most notably Apple Pay, where users can make contactless payments.

Scotiabank are not the only Canadian lender to release a mobile banking app on the new device. Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce has also entered the Apple Watch market, with their app also allowing customers to transfer funds and search for a nearby atm.

‘‘We are committed to finding and developing innovative self-service banking solutions that put technology to work for our customers,” said Jeff Marshall, Scotiabank’s vice president of self-service customer experience. “Mobile banking solutions are the fastest growing banking channels at Scotiabank, and our customers continue to view our iPhone app as a personal, safe and convenient choice that provides them with the information that they need while they are on the go.’’
