NCR and OpenTable partner up to improve American diners

NCR Corporation, a consumer transaction technology company, has teamed up with American restaurant firm OpenTable, making it easier for customers to pay for their meals with their smartphone.

The ‘Pay with OpenTable’ app is designed to make payments easier for customers who want an accessible dining experience. Customers can add a credit or debit card to the app and pay for their meal with their smartphone as they leave the restaurant.

The announcement means that NCR will combine its Aloha point-of-sale (POS) solution into the restaurant’s application. This will be integrated via the NCR-hosted Application Protocol Interface (API) platform.

The interface platform allows companies to join its payment services across NCR’s installed base of POS systems. The OpenTable app can now be integrated into the NCR Aloha point-of-sale solution.

‘‘The integration with the NCR Aloha point-of-sale solution makes the OpenTable mobile payment experience even more widely available to our customers. We’re excited about working together to power a payment and dining experience that is intuitive and elegant for both diners and restaurants,’’ said Matt Roberts, chief executive officer of OpenTable.

Prior to the announcement, the integrated solution had been tested in select locations across America and was met with great feedback.

‘‘We have been using the NCR and OpenTable mobile payment functionality and are extremely encouraged by the initial benefits. We’re always looking for ways to improve communication flow between our guests and their server, and we feel enabling them to pay on their smartphones will help do this,’’ commented Jon D’Angelica, co-owner of District, one of the restaurants using the solution during its test period.
