SWIFT focuses on Latin America as it opens Miami office

SWIFT, the member-owned cooperative that connects more than 10,800 financial institutions, has opened its new Latin American headquarters in Miami, Florida to service the growing regional markets.

Miami has become a key location for global and national financial operations, with many banks using the city as regional headquarters for their Latin American operations.

SWIFT says it is responding to sustained growth in the region, which saw financial messaging increasing by 11 per cent, and similar growth expect for 2015. The cooperative will provide support to the industry relating to financial changes such as reforms to regulatory compliance.

Jairo Namur, regional manager for Latin America, will head the office. He has already devised and launched operations in local markets including Brazil, Columbia and Mexico.

“The opening of the new office is a significant milestone for our Latin American business. We are now better positioned to meet the growing needs of our customers and the industry. Latin America is an important region for us and our office in Miami further reassures SWIFT‘s confidence in this fast-developing region,” said Chris Church, chief executive, Americas and Global Head of Securities, SWIFT.
