Tyro can now accept PayPal payments

Tyro, an Australian financial services company specialising in EFTPOS, has partnered with PayPal, making it easier for small business owners to accept mobile payments from over 5 million PayPal Australia customers.

Tyro Mobile allows small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Australia to connect with PayPal mobile users, which total 5.5m in the region.

This partnership has been created because only 36 per cent of merchants in Australia actually accept mobile payments. Studies have shown however, that 61 per cent of the Australian population want to pay for goods and services with their smartphones.

‘‘Australians increasingly want to pay for purchases quickly and conveniently and Tyro’s partnership means those with the PayPal app can now use their smart phones to do so in a second,’’ stated Jost Stollmann, CEO of Tyro.

Merchants using Tyro Mobile can only accept digital payments from PayPal, but in the near future, digital wallets such as Samsung Pay will be incorporated within Tyro’s application.

PayPal is the operating system for digital payments and partnerships like this one with Tyro Mobile allow us to extend our offering to Australian businesses of all sizes,’’ explained Emma Hunt, Director of SMB, PayPal.

‘‘We’ve seen widespread acceptance of our consumer app amongst our more than 5.5 million active Australian users and are excited that Tyro Mobile’s merchants can now connect with our customers by facilitating PayPal payments in-store,’’ continued Hunt.
