PayExpo 2015, the UK’s largest payment event, kicked off at London’s ExCeL centre on Tuesday – and the PaymentEye video team was there to capture all the action. Day one has seen us speaking with companies at the forefront of the payments industry about key issues from security and biometrics all the way through to crypto-currencies.
With the coffee flowing and the cameras ready, we kicked the day off with an interview with Nicolas Cary, co-founder of Blockchain, a bitcoin wallet company. He explained how and why the digital currency is going from strength to strength, as well as talking about its future.
Then it was time to put on the gloves, turn up the heat and experience Payments Punch Up. Unique to the PayExpo, Payment Punch Up debated some of the most controversial topics in payments, with the first round being all about the question ‘whether wearables are the future of payments’.
When the verbal pugilists retired, we spoke to Nektarios Liolios, managing director of Startupbootcamp, who gave advice on how to create a successful business in the payments industry.
Fresh off the morning plenary session about payments and regulation, Robert Harper, director of Mobile Commerce at PayPal (UK), sat down with us and discussed the future of mobile payments and the viability of alternative currencies such as Bitcoin.
Nationwide’s head of Payments Strategy and Architecture covered the security issues concerning the banking industry as well as discussing what sort of relationship the UK could have the Bitcoin.
With the morning over, we headed over to Currency Cloud’s VIP lunch to see what their clients and partners thought about the future of the payments industry and the best innovations they have seen in the last couple of months.
After lunch we spoke to Christian von Hammel-Bonten, executive VP for Sales and Telecommunications at Wirecard, who talked about the future of wearable technology and, rather excitingly, gave PaymentEye a sneak peak of their new wristband.
Our final interview for the day was Russell King, CEO of Paycasso, a company that tackles the issues concerning security and fraud in the payments industry. Russell talked about the security landscape and what the future holds in store for biometric technology.
All the interviews will be uploaded on to our website and YouTube channel so keep an eye out for them in the near future.
Day one concluded with delegates, exhibitors and speakers gathering for a buzzy networking session – and a well-deserved drink.
On the second day of PayExpo 2015, PaymentEye will be talking to plenty more companies, including Currency Cloud and FIS, about the hottest topics affecting the payments industry. We’ll also be speaking to delegates on the show floor to get their opinions on the day’s proceedings and the what’s next for the industry – come and join us there!
