Nationwide becomes first high street bank to work with Apple Watch

Nationwide Building Society has released an app for the Apple Watch that will allow users to access and monitor their bank accounts through the watch. The app makes the financial services provider the first one to do so in the UK.

Nationwide’s app comes out at the same time as the building society mentions new research, which shows that  nearly half (44 per cent) of people check their  bank balances on the move. However, half of those people are surprised by the amount.

The building society’s research, conducted by Atomik that surveyed 1000 people, revealed that 75 per cent of those people surprised by their balances were surprised because they had more than they were expecting. The research also found that people are more likely to check their bank balances (44 per cent) than their work email (34 per cent) whilst on the move.

“The Nationwide app will give our customers even greater choice about how they manage their money whilst on the move, demonstrating our commitment to doing business on our members’ terms, not ours,” said Barnaby Davis, Nationwide’s Retail Strategy director.
