Android Pay starts working with loyalty and rewards schemes

The restaurant retailer Jamba Juice and restaurant analytics platform Fishbowl have collaborated to create a mobile wallet that will contain promotions that can be redeemed on Google’s Android Pay.

The two companies have worked with Google to integrate Fishbowl’s Promotions Manager software into Android Pay.

This means that users who use Android Pay at Jamba Juice restaurants that accept Near Field Communication (NFC) payments in their POS will be able to do more than just pay. Users will be able to store and redeem promotions, keep track of their loyalty schemes and gift cards.

“We know that mobility is going to revolutionize the consumer payment experience in the restaurant industry,” said Dev Ganesan, President and CEO of Fishbowl.

Fishbowl’s promotions system will allow users to save and utilise their promotions whilst merchants will be able to process them in real-time.

“We were excited to work with Google and Fishbowl to demonstrate what the guest experience of the future is going to look like,” said Julie S. Washington, Chief Brand Officer of Jamba Juice.

This collaboration is another sign that points to reward and loyalty schemes as being the next niche market to be focussed on within payments. Microsoft has started testing its own rewards programme, Earn. Harvey Nichols has also launched its own loyalty app. There are also newcomers such as Droplet, who think they have spotted the next big thing in the payments industry.
