Barclays has appointed Richard Fisher, former CEO of Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and current Pepsi board member, as a senior advisor. The appointment will be effective from 1st July, 2015.
In the late 90s and early 2000s Fisher was the Deputy United States Trade Representative with the rank of ambassador, during which time he oversaw the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Alongside stints in the private sector, where he founded Partner of Fisher Capital Management, an investment advisory firm, he also served in the U.S. Treasury Department as Assistant to the Secretary of the Treasury.
In the late 2000s he rose to prominence as one of the most vocal critics of the Wall Street’s bailout
In his role as a senior advisor, Fisher will provide insight into regulatory issues, international trade, markets and monetary policy and, Barlcays hopes, help it navigate the unpredictable Federal Reserve waters.
He is expected to use his knowledge and experience to help him act as the bank’s sounding board on matters of markets and policy.
“I am delighted to be joining Barclays, a leader in global finance and a values-driven organization. I very much look forward to working with the team and playing a role in helping clients achieve their business objectives,” said Mr. Fisher.
