Citi launches Touch ID payment app

Citi has released a new mobile payments application for iPhone users, allowing consumers to use their fingerprints to make contactless payments.

Using the Touch ID feature on iPhone devices, Citi customers in the United States can make simpler peer-to-peer payments. The app includes more design updates including an auto-capture feature that allows consumers to deposit their cheques through their smartphones.

‘‘Today, we are taking the next major step by enabling login with a mere touch through Touch ID, while also introducing a suite of new features easily navigated in a completely redesigned app,’’ said Citi global consumer banking chief Heather Cox.

The new app will also be compatible with the Apple Watch, with customers being able to check transactions, balances, as well as receiving push notifications when needing to make a payment.

Head of digital Melissa Stevens stated that Citi’s customers were the driving force behind the creation of the new app. ‘‘Customers have asked for faster and easier access, mobile bill pay tools, credit card spend notifications and simpler app menus, and with the new Citi Mobile app, we’ve made major strides toward delivering those things and more.’’
