Nordea launches FinTech accelerator for Nordic start-ups

Nordea, the Swedish financial services provider, is launching a new accelerator programme this autumn in partnership with Finnish innovation agency Nestholma to nurture 10-15 Nordic FinTech start-ups.

With recent reports of Sweden striving to become a hotspot for FinTech innovation and the Swedish capital becoming the second most attractive city after London in terms of FinTech investment, Nordea is moving quickly to capitalise on this recent interest in the sector by starting an accelerator programme for Nordic FinTech startups in autumn 2015.

The intensive programme will last three months and will focus on on “new, outside the box, innovations for customer experience and touchpoints in digitalvalue opportunities around payments”.

The accelerator will also provide an opportunity to work and learn from Nordea’s experts and executives.

The bank says it is looking for start-ups that exhibit potential to grow on an international scale and can offer an innovative service.

“The accelerator gives startups a unique opportunity to work in close cooperation with our best professionals. At the same time, we’ll get to learn new working methods and receive new perspectives from the teams,” said Jussi Mekkonen, deputy head of banking at Nordea.

Nestholma will support the most promising start-ups by providing the seed money and they will be showcased at the Slush Hacks event in November.
