H&M and UNICEF launch new charitable crypto-currency

Global NGO Unicef and clothing firm H&M have collaborated to launch Unicoins, a new charitable cryptocurrency to help children support others around the world access educational resources.

Children are encouraged to upload drawings of they want to be when they grow up to the campaign website and are rewarded with a virtual Unicoin.

The H&M Conscious Foundation matches each earned Unicoin by providing a notebook and pencil to be distributed by Unicef.

The resources are given to children struggling to access education in the developing world as part of Unicef’s Early Childhood Development programme.

Unicef has described the new currency as “the first currency dedicated to do good”; the first 20,000 unicoins to have been issued have already been spent. But Unicef is continuing to promote the campaign across social media with #Unicoin.

The unicoin initiative and #Unicoin campaign is part of a wider deal between the two organisations that dates back to 2014, when the H&M Conscious Foundation made a multi-million dollar donation to Unicef over a three year period.
