payworks to supply NFC tech to 50,000 Digitax cabs

The Payment House, provider of eeZee taxi, a smartphone taxicab application, has selected payworks to supply 50,000 taxis with Near Field Communication (NFC) payment technology.

The solution will be a joint project between payworks and Digitax, a provider of taximeters and other vehicle solutions equipping more than 50,000 taxis in total in Europe.

As part of the deal, a number of Digitax cabs will now contain both contact and contactless payments via credit and debit card and will be tightly integrated with Digitax’ taxi products.

‘‘We are very impressed with the flexibility of the payworks platform, which enabled us to get to our launch much quicker than we expected. The speed we gained since we started working with payworks will be instrumental for our future success,’’ commented Staale Reiersen, Group CEO at The Payment House.

The partnership spans a number of countries, including the UK, the Nordics and Central Europe. The joint solution has partly launched already in the UK, with London black cabs and EastCoast taxis in Newcastle receiving the NFC technology in July.

The Payment House allows passengers to pay with a passenger app called eeZee Pay, removing the need of a credit card being present.

Christian Deger, co-founder and CEO of payworks adds: ‘‘We are seeing an increasing number of companies using the payworks platform to deliver solutions to the taxi vertical. It is exciting to see how The Payment House uses our technology to deliver an innovative payment solution to this space on a European scale.’’
