Snapchat working on ‘special’ ecommerce product with Hearst

Snapchat is reportedly working on a secret ‘special product’ with Hearst Corporation, which publishes magazines such as Esquire and Cosmopolitan.

The project is said to be led by Luke Crisell, a previous editor in chief at women’s wear retailer Aritzia.

It is speculated that the new project will be ecommerce related given the employment history of Crisell.

Previously, Snapchat invested in Spring, an app for shopping that recommends clothing items using a photo feed in a similar format to Instagram.

In addition, the company partnered with Square to form Snapcash, allowing users to pay each other via the app.

It has been suggested that Snapchat and Hearst’s new project could build upon Snapchat Discover, for which Hearst was a launch partner as it provided content from its Cosmopolitan publication.
