First Data has released Clover Go, a new contactless payment reader that works with swipe and EMV cards, as well as NFC (including Apple Pay, Android Pay & Samsung Pay) devices.
Undoubtedly designed to make the US liability shift more appealing, the reader is able to process EMV transactions in less than 3.5 seconds, making it twice as fast as First Data’s previous Clover Go solution.
First Data’s new update comes several weeks after Square updated its own readers to slash their transaction speeds.
Its new chip and contactless reader update reduces the total transaction time down to 4.2 seconds, 25% faster than the company’s previous low of 5.7 seconds. Square says it’s aiming to bring the time down to 3 seconds.
