Mastercard taps Oracle to bring streamlined digital payments

Mastercard and Oracle have announced a global partnership at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) that is currently taking place in Barcelona.

The collaboration is set to take on streamlined digital payments experiences for hospitality and retail chains, with a specific focus on restaurants and hotels.

Mastercard and Oracle will work to further enhance in-store payment experiences including Qkr! with Masterpass, the mobile app that enables consumers to seamlessly order and pay for goods and services on a smartphone without having to wait in line or for a server to assist. The app is set to further integrate friction-less payments into the customer experience, delivering a swift and convenient payment experience.

Mastercard and Oracle are already working on jointly with clients such as Wagamama and Carluccio’s. In 2017, Mastercard is set to expand the Qkr platform to six additional markets: Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Singapore, South Africa and the US. The global integration will allow consumers to seamlessly pay for fees and supplies at schools, and make payments at petrol stations, parking bays, sporting arenas and vending machines.

“With close to 80 percent of consumers using technology at some point along their shopping journey, Mastercard is committed to unlocking omni-channel commerce for every device and delivering convenient experiences to users at-home, in-stores and on-the-go,” Chris Fendley, SVP Merchant Development, Mastercard commented upon the announcement.

“Building on the success of our joint initiatives with Oracle in the UK, we can help retailers and hospitality providers connect with their customers in more engaging ways while enabling them to grow their businesses with scale, speed and security.”
