A Quick Guide To Comparing Fuel Cards

By Compare Fuel Cards.

Fuel cards are beneficial in many ways, whether you own a small or large business, but there are questions that will need to be answered prior to getting a fuel card. Where do you start, what do you need to think about and how do you know which one is best for you and your business? These are only a select few questions, however, comparing fuel cards does not need to be difficult.

Fuel cards offer a massive choice and selection, which is evident by just looking at the number of options available at your disposal. The challenge that people often miss out on, is choosing a fuel card that offers benefits to the individual, rather than being turned by a brand that is well known and been recommended.

There are often cases where people are found to be absorbed into the glossy advertising, often leading to false promises and pouring money down the train without necessarily needing to or even noticing. So whether you class yourself as an in-depth analyser or an amateur, here is a quick guide to help you compare fuel cards.

Do You Need A Fuel Card?

People can often get absorbed into the benefits of using a fuel card, however, do not qualify for them as they do not use their card often enough. If you are a business owner with one card and often work in a small circumference of an area, then you are not going to really get the benefits of a fuel card. In this case, the cost of filling up could potentially cost you more through payments to fuel cards and the cost of petrol.

What Are The Different Types Of Fuel Cards?

When it comes down to choosing the right fuel cards, you have two different options:

  • Fixed price & pump price
  • Branded fuel cards or non-branded fuel cards

Fixed price fuel cards, offer a fixed price on fuel payments, which helps the control of fuel costs. Again, this can bring more benefits, however, pump price means that the driver pays the fuel price at the pump that they are filling up at. This often leaves drivers to pay higher fuel prices should they fill up on motorways.

When it comes too branded or non-branded fuel cards, it can again bring different benefits. If your driver, or yourself tends to do business to local markets/supermarkets then a branded card would be more beneficial, providing easy access to their fuel stations. These are small situations to consider, however, and bring a host of benefits.

Do You Need A Certain Type Of Coverage?

Coverage options are often referred to the distance or regions you would be covering when driving. For example, if you are a local business, then more often than not, you will not need a branded card, especially as the branded stations may make journeys longer. Whereas regional coverage, means that you could be called into different regions of the country, which applies to plumbers and engineers, which means branded cards could work for you. If you require national coverage and find yourself all over the country, then there are cards available with additional benefits such as food and drink, making the journey a little easier.
