Ingenico’s Axium D7 world’s first GMS and PCI-PTS v5 certified payment device

Following the news that you may soon be making payments via Instagram, there’s even more payments and tech giant crossover news this week.

Ingenico Group recently announced their partnership with Google to produce the remarkable Axium D7 – a smart terminal that allows the user to access the Google Play Store, including: Chrome, YouTube and Google Maps – with a similar user experience to an Android smartphone or tablet.

The purpose of the Android-based POS is to serve the growing demand from merchants who want to provide more services to their customers through a single device

Now, Ingenico have announced that the Axium D7 is has acheived both Google Mobile Services and PCI-PTS v5 certifications – the world’s first POS terminal to do so.

“In the same way that the mobile phone evolved into the smartphone, the role of the payment terminal is changing rapidly,” said Patrice Le Marre, EVP of the Banks & Acquirers Business Unit at Ingenico Group, told PaymentEye.

“The smart terminal has moved beyond just accepting payments; merchants can now use them to build more agile businesses with personalised in-store experiences. Working with Google, we’re enabling customers to access the Play Store, including Chrome, YouTube and Google Maps, from our Axium D7 – much like how they would on their smartphone or tablet.”

“Customers can make use of online promotions and loyalty programs, while merchants can use the terminal for employee, stock and store management via third-party applications. Backed by a centralised and scalable software-as-a-service platform, merchants benefit from out-of-the-box functionalities and powerful tools to run their daily business, such as e-receipt management and an e-commerce gateway.”
