Payments for everyone: SumUp now distributed in more than 1500 retail stores across Europe

SumUp, the leading mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) company, announces that it is now available in more than 1500 retail stores across Europe. The distribution network, including major brands like Metro Group, Office Outlet and Staples, reflects the company’s vision to democratize the access to card payments, especially among small and medium-sized businesses.

As of June 1st, 260 retail locations of Sally Salon Services, the UK and Ireland’s largest professional hair and beauty supplier, will be added to SumUp’s extensive retail network and enable more business owners to purchase the SumUp Air Card Reader. Business owners who prefer to purchase products in-store, especially in rural areas, benefit from increased availability.

Duco Trienekens, Head of Retail at SumUp, says: “In the UK alone, there are still more than five million businesses – many of them in the beauty industry – that still don’t accept card payments. With a close-meshed distribution network, we offer significantly easier access to our card payment technology than traditional providers.” He adds: “With no monthly fees and a three-minute online sign-up process, businesses that run with SumUp get enabled to accept card payments almost immediately after the purchase and won’t miss a sale in the future.”

According to the UK Cards Association, total card spending in the UK reached £57.2 billion in February 2017, up by £5.1 billion above the level a year ago. Contactless payments and new mobile payment services such as Apple Pay and Android Pay will further push this trend. Business owners, who purchase the SumUp Air Card Reader, will profit from this trend as they are instantly enabled to accept contactless payments as well as payments via Chip & PIN and magnetic stripe.

SumUp is a leading financial technology company that is set to become the first ever global card acceptance brand. The company enables businesses to accept card payments at the Point-of-Sale or on the go in a simple, secure and cost-effective way. SumUp is the only company to offer an end-to-end EMV card acceptance solution built on proprietary hardware and mobile apps. The company has gone on to develop a full suite of SDKs and APIs for third parties to integrate card payments into their mobile apps.
