Visa is a global payments technology company that connects consumers, businesses, banks and governments in more than 200 countries and territories, enabling them to use digital currency instead of cash and checks. Visa has built one of the world’s most advanced processing networks, capable of handling more than 20,000 transactions per second, with reliability, convenience and security, including fraud protection for consumers and guaranteed payment for merchants. Visa offers PayWave, a contactless card service for low value payments (£15 and under) using NFC technology. Cards are read up to 4 inches from the secure reader and each transaction is accompanied by a unique security code to protect against fraudulent use. Consumers are occasionally asked to enter PIN as an extra security measure. Visa PayWave payments are processed through the same network as swipe transactions.
