American Express is partnering with Sprint to help promote its Serve digital wallet platform. It is the first agreement for Serve – which allows users to pay for real and virtual goods with their mobile phone – with a mobile carrier. The Serve app will be made available in the Sprint Zone mobile store this summer to customers with selected Android phones.
“We believe that customers will benefit greatly from taking advantage of Serve’s functionality as a quick, user-friendly way for tackling the often tedious task of paying bills and making mobile payments,” says Dan Schulman, group president of enterprise and growth at American Express.
The deal is part of American Express’s strategy to reach consumers that do not have credit cards. The hope is that Serve will put American Express and Sprint – the US’s third largest mobile carrier with more than 51m customers – in sync with the buying habits of a new generation.
