Foursquare’s 10m users now check-in an average of 3m times per day, up from 2m in February, CEO Dennis Crowley tells Bloomberg. He also claims that the service has now signed up more than 500,000 registered merchants as the firm strives to push its business into the mainstream. The company now plans to start charging the merchants to boost revenues and develop strategies to monetise user data that the service holds.
Foursquare’s Pages feature, which hosts more than 3,000 pages so far, is now self-service for the brands, organisations and publications that want to sign up to the service. The firm is also branching out into the gaming sector with news that Magmic Games’ Rubik’s Cube app for iOS devices is now integrated with the location platform, enabling users to check in at key stages of the game.
